Brynnod, a wizard with a severe mood disorder, spends his days tinkering, self-medicating, and completely neglecting his job: to find a Chosen One. He is the last of his generation to have never found one—a late bloomer, soon becoming a joke.
 
When the Wizarding Council give him an ultimatum, to clean up his act or lose his position, he takes matters into his own hands, tricking a young farm boy into thinking he is Chosen by the Heroes of Old, and setting off on a quest for fame and glory that couldn’t possibly backfire.
 
That is until the greatest threat in several millennia appears, and Brynnod is forced to tackle it with nothing but his wits, his sardonic cat companion and his fake Chosen One, all while battling his mental illness and trying to keep his lie from getting out.
