I’m delighted to share that my short story, The Frogman’s Son, has been awarded Best in Show in the Spectrum Writers London 2024 Short Story Competition.

Based on the theme of Legacy, it's about an opal-selling grifter looking to close on his 'last big score', while wrestling with following in his father's footsteps.

The Frogman’s Son secured several key category wins, including First Place for Best Plot and First Place for Best Use of Theme—a category shaped by this year’s prompt, “Legacy.” The story also earned Second Place for Best Dialogue/Voice and Second Place for Best Characters and a Distinction in the always-enigmatic “I Don’t Know Why, But I Liked It!” category.

I’ll receive a critique from the editors at Andromeda Spaceways Magazine and the honour of selecting the theme for the next contest later this year.

Huge thanks to Spectrum Writers London for organising—and congratulations to all the talented writers who took part!
